the fourth 05:43
sperm swam at random and you were born handsome with a history of cancer that weighs on your mind and i was born ugly so nobody loved me but when you've got money people are kind but you're gonna die, "man" like i'm gonna die, "man" but i'll be covered in diamonds while worms eat your eyes when you least expect it you might get your throat slit on public transit riding at night you can cycle through chords as i drum to the sound of crying and gnashing of teeth i'll just hang on the fourth with my thumb in my mouth it doesn't matter to me it doesn't matter to me so now when i'm riding i try memorizing all advertisements they market to men so when i see a product i'll know that i want it and reach for my wallet to buy it again you can cycle through chords as i drum to the sound of crying and gnashing of teeth i'll just hang on the fourth with my thumb in my mouth it doesn't matter to me it doesn't matter to me

ugly moon 06:04
ugly moon but you look good from the front lovely satellite reflecting the sun i imagined time would change you some but you've learned nothing from the things that you've done i remember back when i was a kid empty pocket with a sky for a lid i loved you more than i would like to admit but i'm still reeling from the things that we did i knew that something wasn't right i didn't know nothing was wrong paler now like i've been out of the sun paler now like i've been losing some blood i imagined time would change me some but still i thought i'd stay the person i was but ugly moon you know i'm different now don't say you don't know what i'm talking about all the details i've been leaving out all the subjects you've been dancing around i knew that something wasn't right i didn't know nothing was wrong
3.
the streetcar's on the horizon and the lantern's always lit and i've got time to think and write and money left to spend my bones are all in alignment got a little room i rent but i've dragged a cloud through every town i've ever lived within the curtains part to let the light in and the ledge is always filled with peonies and nectarines you're at the windowsill the evening's still on your eyelids but the morning's on your lips you're crying now "what's this about was it something that i did?" it's an image i've tried memorizing but your face is always hid by little clouds that trickle out from the places i forget so if that streetcar's on the horizon if that lantern's lit again i've dragged your cloud through every town i've lived in ever since
4.
sky been looking so clouded like the one good eye of your hound is i can deal with his howling but the click and drag of these houses... there must be something that's left underneath something they couldn't find or else i wouldn't keep living here or else i wouldn't be dying a slow death in a warm bed a slow death in a warm bed an old friend a safe bet a slow death a slow death imagine saying your goodnights his side / your side say you can deal with some compromise but for the rest of your life...? there must be something you find hard to leave something he still provides or else you wouldn't keep living here or else you wouldn't be dying a slow death in a warm bed a slow death in a warm bed an old friend a safe bet a slow death a slow death

fog 07:57
you woke up with him again slipped out and left him where he laid hoped today would be the day tied your hair all up in braids watched the fog roll down the plain skies implied impending rain this time you knew tonight you'll prove him wrong took his keys and got away headlights barely pierced the haze drove a hundred anyway you knew no eye or instrument could predict or comprehend what might lie around the bend the light the view the fight you'll lose for fun you knew tonight you'll prove him wrong those familiar trees and signs appeared before then moved behind to disappear into the white your eyes were fixed upon the mirror awaiting what might be revealed when the fog would finally clear
6.
you were waiting on the corner for a bus that never showed you saw the likeness of your father floating high above the road but you'd been drinking when you saw him and your mind was moving slow like your ears were full of cotton so what he said you'll never know later on out on the water you felt a presence in your boat hit the lights and killed the motor only to find yourself alone so you fumbled through your pockets hoping you could find a smoke wondered how you're still hungover from what you drank three nights ago coming down there's a dim light a narrow sound opening wide getting loud getting real quiet slipping out slipping in like a tongue i went walking in my dress shoes i left my wallet and my phone but i lost track of my direction caught in the rain on my way home i'm not sure what i was expecting i guess i really should have known i'd find you right there where i left you that i could never be alone coming down there's a bright light a gentle sound opening wide getting loud or staying real quiet slipping out slipping in like you've done coming down
7.
like a movie 04:04
it felt like a movie it felt like a film the moon and the music the rain and the kiss our synchronized movements the way we were lit the camera always floating close behind us it felt like a movie it felt like a film to think you could love me it didn't feel real if just for a moment thought my heart might spill the quiet truths i'd hoped that it was hiding it felt like a movie some old-fashioned film the colours all muted the lights growing dim it all failed to move me the acting felt limp but it might have just come down to lazy writing it felt like a movie the roles that we filled spread out on the driveway the box of my things i feared you might leave me but never like this i thought that i could tell when you were lying
