The Train Behind My House

from Logic Songs by Little Kid

/

about

The train bell was recorded with a Sony microcassette recorder where the tracks cross William Street, just south of York St., in London, Ontario on April 18th, 2009. There was some sort of malfunction and the bell was stuck ringing for something like five or ten minutes, with no train coming from either direction.
An early version of the song was recorded on October 13th, 2010, but the current version was finished on January 14th, 2011.
I used Jessiah's classical guitar, my Hammond organ, and the piano. The bell was looped with my Boss RC-20XL and manipulated with FruityLoops for the intro.

lyrics

you used to shake the ground
and the walls around my house
but i found comfort in the sound

and though you're just as loud
i barely hear you now
you're like the train behind my house

i used to kiss the ground
you walked behind my house
but now there's dust in my mouth

i used to know your word
believed the things i'd heard
but sometimes, lord, it seems absurd

take off your shoes
this is holy ground
take off your shoes
and walk the rusty rails behind my house
